In 2019, a new hall for internet logistics was built on the Ernstings family site. The façade design by Nabo Gass was realized in collaboration with Wortmann Architects. The aim was to give form to a building that would assert itself in the challenging environment and, despite its direct, functional connection to the existing buildings, would not deny its purpose, and therefore meet the highest design standards.
The central idea of this design is the reflection of a flight of stairs protruding from the façade, which simultaneously forms the roof for the truck ramps for inbound and outbound deliveries.
As a prominent element, this sensible and gracefully ascending line becomes the defining design element on the closed, fully clinker-clad surface of the building.
Both the south-east and south-west façades are symmetrically continued in highly reflective glazing.
The building, visually reduced by the reflection of nature, is perceived as a monolith.
Handcrafted clinker bricks, Flemish bond, and matching grout color serve the purpose of a subtle yet vibrant, monochromatic play of colors, which underscores the design approach in its tranquility and simplicity.
